Job summary

Minnewaska Community Health Services is seeking a Care Attendant to provide personal care and health-related services for residents, ensuring physical and emotional wellbeing. The role reports to the Housing Manager and offers full-time hours including every other weekend.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, medication assistance as delegated, and maintaining safety and compliance with HIPAA and dementia training requirements.

Qualifications

• ACNA/NAR or HHA certificate is preferred, but not required.
• The Care Attendant must possess sensitivity and aptitude for working with the elderly.
• The Care Attendant is required to have an ability to read, write and speak English, and complete and pass a state required background study form which checks for certain criminal convictions or serious maltreatment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the resident with personal cares which may include shampooing of hair, assisting with showering, applying lotion, fingernail and foot care as instructed.
• Assist with dressing, grooming and oral cares as assigned
• Assist in use of hearing aids and glasses for residents
• Help residents reach and maintain the highest level of independence and self-help skills
• Assist with treatments as delegated by the Registered Nurse
• Observe residents and report changes in physical and emotional condition to RN
• Medication administration/assistance as delegated by RN
• Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration
• Assist with meal preparation as needed as directed following special meal plans
• Lead/assist resident activities as scheduled and assigned
• Follow policy on Vulnerable Adult and HIPAA compliance
• Maintain safety device use as per care plan
• Participate in disaster planning drills when on duty
• Develop knowledge for emergency actions
• Practice fire safety and accident prevention procedures
• Follow all Minnewaska Community Health Services policies
• Attend In-service training as assigned
• Must be able to read, write and speak English and comprehend simple instructions
• Must be able to write simple correspondence and documentation on each resident
• Must present information clearly to residents and staff
• Must understand and communicate medical terminology
• Must be punctual with good attendance
• Must use kind tone and stay calm in challenging moments
• Must prioritize and organize work effectively
• Must be flexible and adaptable
• Must be compassionate and ethical
• Must work as a team with RN and others
• Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills
• Must obtain 8 hours Dementia Training within 80 hours of start for ALDC Licensed Facilities
• Must obtain 8 hours Dementia Training within 160 hours of start for AL Licensed Facilities
• Completes required education and Dementia Training annually thereafter
• Other duties as assigned
