tastylive, Inc. in Chicago is seeking a senior Linux engineer who will own the systems layer of our production environment, from the metal to the configuration management code.

This hands-on role requires tackling incidents, designing scalable systems, and evaluating new software and architectures. You are expected to dive under the hood, be curious about what lies beneath, and become the go-to expert when a system behaves unexpectedly.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in a Linux systems, infrastructure, or SRE role.
• Strong Linux performance analysis and troubleshooting skills.
• Deep understanding of systems fundamentals (processes, memory, I/O).
• Experience with declarative configuration management (Salt, Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Containerization/orchestration knowledge (Kubernetes or Nomad).
• Strong scripting in Bash and Python.
• Foundational networking knowledge (DNS, DHCP, TCP, TLS).
• Experience with Nginx/HAProxy for load balancing.
• Virtualization experience (VMware, Xen, or KVM).
• Git and peer‑review culture; strong incident write‑ups and runbooks.

Responsibilities

• Own Linux performance under production load across systems and storage.
• Lead troubleshooting on hard incidents with hypothesis-driven investigation.
• Write and maintain declarative configuration management code (Salt, Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Run containerized workloads on Kubernetes or Nomad, including scheduling and health checks.
• Automate with Bash and Python; reduce manual runbooks via tooling.
• Operate core network services (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, TLS).
• Configure and troubleshoot Nginx and HAProxy; support Redis and RabbitMQ in production.
• Manage virtualization across VMware, Xen, or KVM; plan capacity and live migrations.
• Handle secrets with Vault; manage dynamic credentials and rotation.
• Own observability stack (Elastic, Nagios/CheckMK/Icinga); tune alerts for signal.
