IGNA+ tasty in Chicago seeks a senior Linux engineer who will own the systems layer of our production environment—from hardware to configuration management—in a hands-on, hybrid role.

You will diagnose performance, lead incident response, build declarative infrastructure, and operate containers, networks, and data services. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of Linux experience, strong scripting, and a track record of reliable, scalable systems at scale.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in a Linux systems, infrastructure, or SRE role.
• Expert-level Linux with performance analysis tools (perf, strace, ss, iostat, bpftrace).
• Hypothesis-driven troubleshooting methodology.
• Systems fundamentals: processes, systemd, cgroups, namespaces, filesystems, memory, fds.
• Declarative configuration management at production scale (Salt/Ansible/Chef/Puppet).
• Containerization/orchestration experience with Kubernetes or Nomad.
• Scripting and automation in Bash and Python.
• Foundational networking: VLANs, DNS, DHCP, TCP, TLS.
• Proxy/load balancing with Nginx or HAProxy.
• Virtualization with VMware/Xen/KVM.
• Git and peer review as daily habit.
• Excellent written communication.

Responsibilities

• Own Linux performance under production load; tune CPU, memory, disk, and network.
• Lead troubleshooting on hard problems; form hypotheses and test incrementally.
• Write and maintain declarative configuration management code.
• Run containerized workloads; deploy and operate services on Kubernetes or Nomad.
• Automate using Bash and Python; replace manual runbooks.
• Operate core network services; manage DNS and DHCP in production.
• Manage traffic and data tier; configure Nginx/HAProxy, Redis, RabbitMQ.
• Handle virtualization across VMware, Xen, or KVM; capacity planning and live migration.
• Manage secrets with Vault; rotate credentials and enforce policies.
• Own observability: Elastic Stack, Nagios/CheckMK/Icinga; tune alerts.
• Participate in change management and code reviews via Git.
