Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior II Software Engineer to join the Linux Performance team. You will analyze system performance, design enhancements, and help scale our global platform across 1000+ networks and 100+ countries.

The role requires deep C programming, Linux kernel knowledge, and experience with virtualization. You will work on metrics, visualization, and tooling to improve efficiency across Akamai's 300,000+ servers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Proficient in C; working knowledge of Rust, Python, Bash, or Perl.
• Strong Linux kernel and hardware-software interaction understanding.
• Experience with virtualization (Qemu/KVM) and hardware (SVM/VHE).
• Familiar with perf, bcc, and BPF for debugging and performance analysis.
• Knowledge of PCIe, CXL, CCIX, and USB interconnects.

Responsibilities

• Analyze system performance and bottlenecks.
• Design and implement performance enhancements and new features.
• Contribute to hardware bring-up and productization of servers.
• Extend metrics collection and build visualizations for performance.
• Develop tooling to identify performance problems quickly.
