Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Senior II Software Engineer for the Linux Infrastructure team within Cloud Platform Infrastructure Group. You will help build and maintain a custom Linux kernel with Akamai extensions, ensuring reliability, security, and performance across Akamai's global network.

You will collaborate with platform, application, test and hardware teams to implement features, port changes to newer kernels, and contribute to open source upstreams while staying current with kernel developments.

Qualifications

• 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
• 3+ years of software development in C focused on Linux kernel development and scripting.
• Solid understanding of Linux kernel internals and debugging.
• Familiar with memory management, filesystems, block IO, TCP/IP stack, KVM.
• Comfortable with both x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
• Knowledge of concurrent programming, data structures, algorithms, and network protocols.

Responsibilities

• Developing new features to improve performance, reliability, and security of Akamai Cloud Platform.
• Porting existing Akamai modifications to newer Linux kernel versions.
• Debugging and fixing issues across complex test and production environments.
• Enhancing build and test automation to support Continuous Testing.
• Collaborating with platform, application developers, QA, and hardware teams.
• Upstreaming work with the open source community; staying current with upstream changes.
