Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to lead the design and modernization of secure Linux infrastructure supporting classified and scientific missions at ORNL. You’ll operate at the intersection of Linux architecture, cybersecurity, HPC, AI/ML, and secure computing, providing technical leadership and mentorship.

Responsibilities include architecting enterprise Linux platforms, leading automation efforts, and ensuring compliance with RMF, NIST 800-53, and STIGs.

Qualifications

• BS degree in a related technical field; 8+ years Linux systems engineering/administration preferred
• Active Top‑Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Advanced expertise in RHEL/Linux engineering, architecture, troubleshooting, performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, engineering, and modernization of secure Linux infrastructure across multiple security domains.
• Architect, build, and sustain enterprise Linux platforms (RHEL/Ubuntu) in physical/virtual environments.
• Drive automation and infrastructure modernization using Ansible, Python, Bash, Git, and IaC practices.
• Design secure computing solutions aligned with RMF, NIST 800-53, STIGs, DOE directives, ICD 503.
• Integrate Linux with enterprise identity, virtualization, storage, monitoring, and security platforms.
• Serve as technical authority for Linux/infrastructure challenges and perform root-cause analysis.
