Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a Senior High Performance Computing Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and management of HPC systems within a classified computing environment. You will collaborate with security teams, scientists, and IT leadership to ensure performance, security, and compliance for sensitive data and workloads.

The role requires extensive experience in HPC architecture, cluster management, and parallel computing, with a focus on secure operations and regulatory

Qualifications

• BS in computer science, engineering, or a related field; 8+ years of relevant experience.
• 8 years of HPC engineering experience with cluster management, parallel computing, and performance optimization.
• Experience in classified environments with security policies, compliance frameworks, and standard processes (e.g., NIST, DISA STIGs).
• HPC systems architecture experience including cluster management tools (e.g., SLURM, PBS, Moab).
• Linux system administration with scripting/automation (Bash, Python, Ansible).
• Experience with performance tuning/benchmarking tools for HPC (e.g., Ganglia, Grafana).
• Experience with parallel programming frameworks (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA) and high-performance interconnects (InfiniBand).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and deployment of HPC systems for a classified environment.
• Oversee installation, configuration, and management of HPC clusters for performance and reliability.
• Ensure HPC systems comply with security policies and regulatory requirements; conduct audits.
• Monitor and optimize HPC performance, identifying bottlenecks and reducing downtime.
• Lead HPC-related projects from planning to operational support; mentor junior engineers.
• Stay informed on the latest HPC technologies and drive continuous improvements.
