Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Firmware / Diagnostics Software Engineer in Austin, TX for embedded diagnostics on Linux‑based networking hardware. You will develop and validate software, work with ASIC/hardware teams, and simulate hardware bring‑up and testing of high‑speed interfaces.

You'll implement drivers for I2C, PCIe, SPI, MDIO, and help validate TCP/IP stack and network diagnostics in a lab environment, with a focus on reliability and performance on production systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related field.
• At least 2 years of embedded software experience.
• Experience with C/C++ in Linux for low-level and embedded systems.
• Experience with BSP and bootloaders; hardware bring-up.
• Strong TCP/IP networking knowledge and networking diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded diagnostics software in Linux.
• Implement and enhance diagnostic test suites to validate hardware functionality.
• Participate in hardware bring-up, configuration, and validation of boards.
• Develop and debug low-level device drivers for interfaces like I2C, PCIe, SPI, MDIO.
• Work with BSPs including bootloaders and system initialization.
• Configure and test Ethernet and networking interfaces, validate PHY and SSD.
• Troubleshoot hardware-software interaction issues across components.
• Collaborate with ASIC and hardware teams to define diagnostics requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors for hardware testing and diagnostics integration.
• Apply TCP/IP networking knowledge to design and validate diagnostics.
• Test and validate networking ASICs and PHYs; storage/non-volatile memory devices.
