Job summary

Insight Global in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to develop and bring-up prototype hardware, including device drivers and diagnostic software. You will work closely with hardware and ASIC teams to exercise datapaths and support manufacturing use of software.

You will also implement and support nightly builds and regression of diagnostics images on hardware, bringing up Ethernet PHYs, SFPs, and related components as part of product readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in EE, CE, CS or related field.
• 3–5 years of professional embedded software development experience.
• Experience with device drivers, low-level hardware interfaces, firmware, or diagnostics.
• Hands-on hardware bring-up in a lab environment.
• Experience with Ethernet PHYs, optics/SFPs, and/or PCIe.
• Ability to read schematics, datasheets and ASIC docs.
• Hands-on with debugging tools: oscilloscope, logic analyzers, JTAG, protocol analyzers.

Job description

THIS ROLE IS 5 DAYS ONSITE IN AUSTIN, TX

LONG TERM RENEWING CONTRACT

PAY RATE: $64/HOUR MAX

Must-Haves

• Bachelor's degree (EE, CE, CS, or related)
• 3 - 5 years of professional embedded software development experience
• Strong C - proven work on device drivers, low-level hardware interfaces, firmware, or diagnostics
• Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up / board bring-up in a lab environment
• Direct experience with Ethernet PHYs, optics/SFPs, and/or PCIe
• Proficient reading schematics, component data sheets, and ASIC documentation independently (PDF circuit diagrams)
• Hands-on with hardware debug tools: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, protocol analyzers, multimeters
• Working knowledge of Embedded Linux and standard Linux tools
• Solid understanding of how Ethernet works at a system level
• Ability to work independently on a complex system with minimal ramp up

Nice-to-Haves

• Direct ASIC experience / deeper Ethernet system knowledge
• Python scripting for test support and integration
• CI/CD exposure (Jenkins-based tools, custom scripts, regression)
• Familiarity with AI coding tools (e.g., Codex)
• Background in robotics or hardware test with hands-on component-level debugging

Job Description:

You will work closely with hardware team to develop device drivers and software to bring-up new prototype hardware, exercise datapaths, support Device Verification Testing using the diagnostic software, support and review manufacturing use of the software. You will also implement and support nightly build and regression of diagnostics images on hardware.

Additionally, you will be responsible for bringing-up ethernet PHY, SFPs, board mounted power, switching ASICs, PoE and other components on our products.

The offline diagnostic software team works with a cross functional team to develop and deliver hardware solutions. You will work with hardware and ASIC design engineers, hardware test teams, component vendors, and manufacturing engineers.
