Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is seeking a Lineworker Training Instructor to deliver high-quality hands-on and classroom-based instruction for apprentices and journeyman lineworkers. You will develop technical skills, safety awareness, and professional standards for success in the electric utility industry.

Responsibilities include delivering training for field operations, teaching OSHA/NESC compliance, and maintaining curriculum.

Qualifications

• Distribution Instructor IV: 8–12 years journey level experience.
• HS diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems and safety.
• Ability to climb poles, operate bucket trucks, and work at heights.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for adult learners.
• Experience with training software (PowerPoint, Office) is desirable.
• Physical ability to demonstrate field skills (climbing, rigging).
• CDL Class A preferred.
• Solid knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and utility safety practices.
• Experience training or leading field crews is a plus.
• Occasional supervision; Distribution Instructor V entails 12+ years experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver training for field operations including safety and methods.
• Teach OSHA and NESC regulatory requirements and company policies.
• Demonstrate and supervise pole climbs, bucket trucks, and rigging.
• Evaluate trainees via tests and field observations with feedback.
• Maintain training records and update curriculum as standards evolve.
• Promote a safety-first culture and professionalism among learners.
• Coordinate scheduling with management and other instructors.
• Provide classroom and hands-on instruction on electrical theory and systems.
• Mentor employees and provide individualized feedback.
• Stay informed on new tools and methods across FirstEnergy territory.
• Participate in safety initiatives and storm restoration as needed.
• Collaborate to ensure consistency across programs and sites.
• Facilitate field-based training including climbing and equipment operation.
• Assess trainee performance through written and practical evaluations.
