Job summary

The City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Lead Lifeguards to monitor aquatic activities and support daily operations at municipal beaches, pools, and aquatic centers. You will guide lifeguard staff and serve as onsite supervisor when management is unavailable.

Responsibilities include monitoring hazards, leading rotations, mentoring lifeguards, and assisting with lessons, audits, inventories, and reports while ensuring excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Must possess swimming skills (defined as ability to swim 200 yards, tread water 2 minutes, swim in 12 feet).
• Must have at least one season of lifeguard or water safety instructor experience.
• Must possess and maintain American Red Cross Lifeguard license and current CPR, AED, Oxygen and First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

• Monitor aquatic areas for hazards and emergencies; perform rescues and administer first aid.
• Lead lifeguard rotations and daily operational tasks; supervise staff when needed.
• Act as onsite supervisor when management is unavailable and ensure adequate coverage.
• Orient, train, and mentor lifeguards; ensure certifications are up to date.
• Assist with swimming lessons, safety audits, inventories, reports and customer service tasks.
