Responsibilities

• Supervise pool activities and enforce safety policies.

Job description

Episcopal Homes of Minnesota has proudly served seniors for 130 years in St. Paul's Midway neighborhood. Our vibrant campus offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, and Home Care services. Residents enjoy access to amenities including a fitness center, pool, pub, theater, and gourmet dining.

We are currently hiring a Lifeguard to help provide a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for residents and other pool participants. This position is responsible for actively monitoring the pool area, enforcing safety guidelines, responding to emergencies, and helping maintain a clean and safe aquatic environment.

Wage: $19.00-19.25/hr.
Schedule:8:00am-3:00pm (2 days per week - Flexibility on which days per week)

What You'll Do:

• Supervise swimming activities and ensure all participants follow pool policies, guidelines, and safety procedures.
• Actively monitor swimmers and identify potential safety risks before they become emergencies.
• Enforce pool rules and address unsafe behaviors in a professional and respectful manner.
• Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies, including performing water rescues when necessary.
• Administer first aid, CPR, AED, or artificial respiration when needed.
• Conduct routine inspections of the pool area, equipment, and facilities to identify potential safety concerns.
• Monitor pool conditions and water quality to help maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the pool deck and locker room areas.
• Address hazards immediately and report safety concerns, incidents, or maintenance needs to the Wellness Director.
• Provide excellent customer service and create a positive, welcoming experience for residents and pool participants.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with residents, participants, visitors, and team members.
• Assist with pool programming, activities, and wellness initiatives as needed.
• Maintain focus and attentiveness throughout scheduled lifeguard shifts.

What We're Looking For:

• Current American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications.
• Strong swimming skills and the physical endurance necessary to perform water rescues and lifeguard responsibilities.
• Ability to quickly assess situations and respond calmly and effectively during emergencies.
• Strong observational skills and the ability to recognize swimmers who may be in distress.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to confidently enforce pool rules while maintaining professionalism and respect.
• Dependable, attentive, and safety-focused.
• Ability to work independently while also being part of a team.
• Commitment to providing a welcoming and positive environment for older adults and other pool participants.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform all required on-deck and in-water lifeguarding duties.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, kneel, and climb pool ladders.
• Strong vision, hearing, and observational abilities necessary to identify safety concerns and swimmers in distress.
• Ability to perform water rescues and emergency response procedures as required.

Working Conditions:

• Indoor pool environment with exposure to high humidity and pool chemicals.
• Occasional exposure to loud noise.
• Requires sustained focus and attentiveness for extended periods.
• Variable scheduling may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
