Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a dedicated Lifeguard to lead safety efforts at the pool and surrounding areas. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, engaging environment for members and youth, and ensuring lifeguards meet essential functions.

The position requires current Lifeguard certification (YMCA/Red Cross) with a plan to obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days, plus BLS/First Aid/EMS certifications and Lifeguard Supervisor credential before the first shift.

Qualifications

• Must have Lifeguard certification (YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard) and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current/or must obtain BLS for AED, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications prior to first shift; complete required Compliance Training.
• Must obtain Lifeguard Supervisor certification prior to first shift.

Responsibilities

• Ensure pool safety and enforce rules and procedures during assigned shift.
• Maintain pool and deck cleanliness and perform routine maintenance and chemical testing.
• Respond to emergencies promptly; rescue victims within 20 seconds when needed.
• Supervise and guide other lifeguards; participate in audits and skill evaluations.
• Maintain communication with members and staff using firm, fair, and tactful approaches.
