Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Protection & Control Engineer with 7+ years of experience in major utility substations. The role centers on leading a team through proposal, design, and as-built stages, coordinating with various engineering groups, and delivering comprehensive protective relaying and SCADA packages.

PE registration is required; a BS in Electrical Engineering is standard, with MS degrees considered as substitutes. This position may involve travel to assigned client sites across the US.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Civil; MS may substitute
• 7+ years of electrical engineering experience in protection and control
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration required
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Familiar with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
• Strong analytical and computer skills

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of protection & control engineers, technicians, and drafters from proposal to as-built.
• Coordinate with Substation Physical Engineering, Relay Settings, and other groups for design concurrence.
• Develop complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications systems.
• Develop SCADA packages, including input/output lists.
• Provide technical direction and training to drafters and junior engineers.
• Build relationships with senior engineers, managers, and clients.
• Present technical solutions to customers and respond to questions.
• Participate in client meetings and site visits to collect or deliver data.
• Ensure QA/QC processes are followed on all design packages.
• Delegate, plan, and review the work of other engineers.
