Job summary

Krieg DeVault LLP seeks an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls from its downtown Indianapolis, IN office. You will supervise GL, billing, payroll, trust accounting, and related functions, and support cash management and partner compensation processes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five to ten years of accounting experience, preferably within a law firm environment.
• Strong knowledge of law firm financial operations, including billing, collections, trust accounting, and partner distributions.
• Experience with financial management systems such as Aderant or Elite.
• Experience with reporting platforms, financial analysis tools, and workflow systems like Iridium or other BI tools such as PowerBI preferred.
• Familiarity with iManage, Chrome River/Emburse, SQL queries is preferred.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Ability to generate and analyze complex financial reports.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, accounting principles, and financial compliance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and trust accounting.
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and legal industry requirements.
• Support development and management of the Firm’s annual budget; assist in forecasting and variance analysis.
• Provide insights to support leadership in strategic and operational decision-making.
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and financial policies; support audit processes.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff; promote continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with IT and operations on financial system enhancements and data integrity.
