Job summary

NV5 in San Diego is seeking a California-licensed PLS Senior Land Surveyor to lead our local office, review work products, and manage field workloads under the Survey Manager.

The role includes research, CAD review of topographic maps and plats, and preparing written descriptions for deeds, leases, and other instruments in compliance with local, state, and project requirements. This is a 100% office-based position in our San Diego Survey group.

Qualifications

• California PLS license is required and must be active.
• 6+ years of surveying and mapping experience.
• 3+ years of project management experience preferred.
• Experience with the local utility sector are and knowledge of local codes is a plus.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional oversight and guidance on projects.
• Review plats and prepare legal descriptions; perform computations.
• Adhere to company policies, safety plans, and project safety plans.
• Conduct quality control checks on computations, field book formats, and content.
• Supervise project field crews or serve as field crew chief.
• Work on control, boundary, subdivision, topographic, and design surveys, ALTA/NSPS standards, aerial mapping; hydrographic surveying a plus.
• Accurately operate survey instruments (total stations, GPS, data collectors) and related software.
• Read and interpret survey drawings, plans, and specifications.
