Job summary

Gokool Digital in Roanoke, VA is seeking an experienced Senior Java / Spring Boot Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain high-performance microservices and RESTful APIs.

You will work on cloud-native backend systems, contribute to data architecture, and build automated infrastructure pipelines in an Agile/Scrum environment, with a hybrid work model (onsite 3-4 days, remote 2 days).

Qualifications

• 8–9+ years of hands-on software development experience with JVM-based technologies.
• Advanced proficiency in Java and Spring Boot microservices architecture.
• Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Deep hands-on expertise with AWS core services.
• Proven experience creating RESTful APIs and working with event-driven messaging (RabbitMQ, Kafka).
• Location: Roanoke, VA area or willing to work from Roanoke, VA.

Responsibilities

• Backend API Development: Design, build, and deploy robust, scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Database & Data Architecture: Lead schema design, query optimization, and management of databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Leverage AWS services and CI/CD pipelines to deploy resilient services.
• Code Quality & Testing: Implement unit and integration tests, perform code reviews, and maintain production-ready code in Agile/Scrum.
• System Design & Automation: Collaborate on database architecture, cloud infra, and backend integrations.
