Job summary

Medallia seeks a Senior Software Engineer to drive backend services in a hybrid role based near McLean, VA. You will design, implement, and operate Java 21/Spring Boot microservices, build stream-processing with Flink, and work with Kafka to manage high-volume data in a multi-tenant environment.

You will collaborate across QA and engineering teams, migrate to modern dependencies, and ensure reliable production services with strong security practices. Hybrid onsite 3 days/week in Tysons area.

Qualifications

• U.S. residency and citizenship/Green Card required for AWS GovCloud compliance.
• 5+ years of backend Java with Spring Boot (Java 17+; Java 21 a plus).
• Experience configuring and maintaining Maven multi-module projects, including dependency management.
• Experience developing multi-tenant architectures.
• Relational DB experience with MySQL for data modeling, schema design and queries.
• Hands-on experience with event streaming/batch processing using Kafka or Flink/Spark.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production-grade REST APIs.
• Cloud deployment experience with a major provider (AWS preferred).
• Participation in an on-call rotation for production support.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices used across the team.
• Develop and operate Flink stream-processing jobs handling high-volume data.
• Build Kafka-based producers/consumers and shared utilities.
• Collaborate with QA and engineering to define and implement features.
• Integrate services via REST APIs and manage multi-repo dependencies.
• Support Java 21 migration and modern dependencies across the platform.
• Optimize and maintain MySQL schemas and queries; work with ClickHouse/Elasticsearch as needed.
• Write tests, review code, and support services in production (observability).
• Own production reliability, availability, and monitoring of services.
• Investigate highly complex cross-service issues; ensure data isolation and security for multi-tenant system.
