Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration seeks a Principal Software Engineer to join the C2BMC Global team in Colorado Springs, CO, to develop Java software for a large distributed system supporting national defense.

The role emphasizes design, development, testing, and documentation; requires a current Top Secret clearance and experience with Java, Unix/Linux, OO design, and Agile practices. On-site work with no remote option is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field with 5+ years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
• Active Top Secret Government clearance required to start (SCI eligibility).
• Proficiency in Java for designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting in a distributed environment.
• Experience developing software in a Unix/Linux environment.
• Strong understanding of OOP, design patterns, and testing/debugging techniques.
• Experience with Agile software development and collaborating in cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with Java Spring and server-side distributed systems; ability to work within a structured development process.
• Experience using Git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, Maven, Eclipse.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based software for the C2BMC Global system in a large distributed environment.
• Provide analysis and technical support for a large Java codebase across development, testing, and deployment.
• Follow specifications to modify functionality, ensuring robustness and performance.
• Design, code, test, and implement automation tools to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including design descriptions and test plans.
• Collaborate with systems engineering, test, cyber, and operations teams to resolve issues and set standards.
• Identify root causes of performance issues and implement effective solutions.
• Work both independently and in a small, focused team in a dynamic environment.
• Apply software engineering practices and coding standards consistently.
