Job summary

PayJunction seeks a Software Architect to design and build enterprise features and payment integrations that handle billions of dollars annually. You will transform open-ended problems from a blank page to production while continuing to write Java yourself, with a focus on reliability, PCI scope, and scalable architectures.

You will stay hands-on, write production Java each sprint, review PRs promptly, and set up a test strategy for high-risk payment paths.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering with ownership of production systems.
• 5+ years of Java experience, including web frameworks and JVM, with recent production code.
• Experience with AWS, Linux, relational databases (MySQL preferred), and CI/CD (Jenkins).
• Hands-on work designing/high-availability transactional systems with significant impact.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants or agents in day-to-day production work.

Responsibilities

• Design and build enterprise features and payment integrations for partners.
• Produce compelling design docs with requirements, trade-offs, and failure modes.
• Write production Java each sprint and review PRs promptly.
• Maintain and optimize processor integrations from messaging to reconciliation.
• Design for reliability, PCI scope reduction, and robust monitoring.
