Job summary

PayJunction is seeking a Software Architect to design and implement enterprise features and payment integrations used by partners, taking open-ended problems from a blank page to production while continuing to write Java yourself.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering with hands-on ownership of production systems.
• Proficient in Java and JVM ecosystem with production code in the last 12 months.
• Experience with AWS, Linux, relational databases (MySQL preferred), CI/CD, IaC (Puppet or similar), and observability tools.
• Designed and operated high-availability transactional systems with significant business impact.
• Experience with AI coding assistants or agents in day-to-day production work.

Responsibilities

• Design and build enterprise features and payment integrations for partners.
• Stay hands-on: write production Java each sprint and review PRs promptly.
• Define reliability, PCI considerations, and monitoring for critical paths.
• Lead architecture decisions and document trade-offs and failure modes.
• Raise delivery velocity with AI-assisted development while maintaining security guardrails.
