PayJunction is seeking a Software Architect to design and build the enterprise features and payment integrations our partners rely on to move billions of dollars a year, taking open-ended problems from a blank page to production while still writing Java yourself.

Our flexible work model supports remote, hybrid, or in-office arrangements, with a focus on reliability, PCI compliance, and scalable architecture.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in professional software engineering with production ownership.
• 5+ years architecture experience (Architect/Staff/Principal).
• 5+ years Java with JVM/web framework experience.
• 5+ years mentoring senior and mid-level engineers through code review and pairing.
• Designed and operated a high-availability transactional system with financial impact.
• Currently uses AI coding assistants in day-to-day production work.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead open-ended initiatives from concept to production with Product and Engineering leadership.
• Design the highest-risk systems end to end with clear requirements and trade-offs.
• Stay hands-on: write production Java every sprint and review PRs promptly.
• Mentor senior engineers through design/code reviews and pairing.
• Architect enterprise capabilities like SSO, RBAC, audit trails, and multi-merchant APIs.
• Keep core processor and integrations performing optimally; map messages and settlements.
• Design for reliability, define SLOs, monitor, and shrink PCI scope.
• Raise delivery velocity with AI-assisted development and security guardrails.
