Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. You will tackle deep distributed systems challenges around node communication, indexing, allocation, and data management across nodes with a focus on the Serverless offering.

You will own end-to-end technical design and implementation, collaborating across teams to deliver scalable, high-performance, and resilient systems that serve customers globally.

Qualifications

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong programming skills in core Java and proficiency with data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to work on complex, highly distributed systems rather than using off-the-shelf services.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate core pieces of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering across multiple machines.
• Improve components that support concurrent and consistent indexing.
• Maintain cluster coordination to keep performance as nodes join/leave and data moves.
• Push the limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes handled by Elasticsearch.
• Investigate performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers with the harder problems.
• Own operational investigations end-to-end until performance or stability is resolved.
