Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is hiring a Principal Java Engineer for distributed systems within the Elasticsearch Serverless team. You will tackle deep distributed systems challenges, ensuring scalable, high-performance indexing and resilient operation across nodes in a cluster.

You will own architecture and implementation end-to-end, collaborate with multiple teams, and push the boundaries of what Elastic can handle in large-scale deployments, with AI-accelerated development.

Qualifications

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and data structures/concurrency.
• Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems with multi-machine deployment.
• Ability to own projects end-to-end and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core pieces of the Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve components for concurrent and consistent indexing across machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination to preserve performance during node churn.
• Push limits on shards, nodes, and petabytes handled by Elasticsearch.
• Investigate performance or concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers with hard problems and assist in root-cause analysis.
• Own end-to-end operational investigations and ensure resolution of issues.
