Job summary

MO is a fully remote organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs, modernizing eligibility and enrollment systems. You will work with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and a suite of enterprise technologies to deliver scalable backend services and APIs for VA’s mission.

You’ll design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications, collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives, and contribute to automated testing,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5–8 years of software development experience in professional environment
• Strong hands on experience with Java development
• Hands on experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
• Developing REST APIs and web services
• Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases
• Experience using Git-based source control
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Strong verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
• Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues
• Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies
• Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments
• Designing and implementing REST and SOAP-based services and integrations
• Developing and maintaining backend services using Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs
