Job summary

MO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to modernize VA’s eligibility and enrollment systems, building scalable, enterprise Java applications and backend services. You’ll work with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and related technologies to support millions of Veterans and their families, while collaborating with architects on modernization efforts.

You should have 5–8 years of professional software development experience, strong Java, REST API design, and a track record in Agile environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 5–8 years of software development experience in a professional environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java development.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot.
• Experience developing REST APIs and web services.
• Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases.
• Experience using Git-based source control.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Strong verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications.
• Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues.
• Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications using Java, Spring, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies.
• Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations.
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers.
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments.
