Citi is hiring a Senior Java Engineer to lead the transformation of its global cheque payment platform. You will combine hands-on Java coding with platform strategy, guiding a scrum team through modernising mainframe components to cloud-native microservices.

This senior role emphasizes architecture, data governance across Oracle, SQL Server and MongoDB, and the integration of AI-powered practices into testing, security, and DevOps.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on Java engineering experience in high-throughput, production-grade environments.
• Proven ability to design and deliver microservices-based architectures using Spring Boot or Spring MVC.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production-grade Java microservices for a high-volume cheque payment platform.
• Architect event-driven distributed systems using Apache Kafka with exactly-once semantics.
• Define and execute the engineering roadmap for modernising the cheque payment platform.
• Own the platform's data architecture across Oracle, Microsoft SQL, and MongoDB.
• Drive AI-powered engineering quality with tools like GitHub Copilot and LLMs.
• Lead JVM performance tuning and optimize settlement processing paths.
• Own security/compliance posture with threat modelling and secure design reviews.
• Act as primary engineering contact for cheque processing pillar and communicate strategy.
