Job summary

Citi in New Castle, Delaware is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to lead the technical transformation of its cheque payment platform. You will code in Java, guide a scrum team, and modernise core payment systems from legacy mainframes to cloud-native microservices, embedding AI-driven practices into development and quality assurance.

You will architect and deliver at scale, ensure data integrity across Oracle, SQL and MongoDB, and drive CI/CD, security, and compliance within an Agile delivery

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on Java engineering experience in high-throughput environments.
• Design and delivery of microservices with REST APIs and inter-service communication.
• Deep knowledge of Kafka for high-throughput streaming and exactly-once processing.
• Experience with Oracle SQL and MongoDB, including indexing and aggregation.
• Cloud-native engineering with OpenShift/AWS/Kubernetes; CI/CD pipelines and DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production-grade Java microservices for a high-volume cheque platform.
• Architect event-driven distributed systems using Kafka and exactly-once semantics.
• Own platform data architecture across Oracle, SQL, and MongoDB.
• Drive AI-powered engineering quality with code generation and testing tooling.
• Lead platform modernization from mainframe to cloud-native microservices.
