Job summary

Citi is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to lead the modernisation of its global cheque payment platform. You will code in Java, guide a scrum team, and shape platform strategy through cloud-native microservices and AI-enhanced practices.

Responsibilities include designing high-throughput microservices, steering data architecture across SQL/NoSQL stores, and driving performance and security across the delivery lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on Java in high-throughput environments.
• Spring Boot / Spring MVC microservices experience.
• Kafka experience with high-throughput streaming.
• Oracle SQL and MongoDB schema/optimisation knowledge.
• Cloud-native deployment practices with container orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production-grade Java microservices for a high-volume cheque platform.
• Architect event-driven systems using Apache Kafka and exactly-once semantics.
• Define the engineering roadmap for modernising the platform to cloud-native microservices.
• Own platform data architecture across Oracle, SQL Server and MongoDB.
• Drive AI-powered engineering quality with tools like GitHub Copilot and LLMs.
• Lead JVM performance tuning and optimize settlement processing paths.
• Oversee security/compliance posture with threat modelling and secure reviews.
• Act as engineering point of contact for cheque processing with stakeholders.
