Job summary

AECOM in Detroit, Michigan is seeking a Senior Traffic / ITS Engineer to join our Transportation team, a versatile professional with strong ITS and traffic signal experience who can lead projects for MDOT, counties, and municipalities while mentoring junior staff.

You will manage ITS planning, design, and deployment, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, develop technical approaches for Michigan traffic projects, and contribute to proposals and client relations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 8+ years of traffic/ITS experience.
• Working knowledge of traffic engineering design software and CAD platforms such as MicroStation/OpenRoads and Synchro.
• Professional engineering licensure and PTOE preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform traffic engineering, ITS, and signal systems assignments for MDOT and public-sector clients.
• Oversee scope, staffing, scheduling, budgeting, QA/QC, and client communication on projects.
• Develop ITS planning/design efforts, including architecture, communications, and device deployment.
• Provide field support, reviews, testing, commissioning, and acceptance of traffic systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead multi-disciplinary teams across Michigan.
• Support business development and proposal efforts with technical approaches.
