Job summary

Newberry Group is seeking an experienced ISSE to support the DISA customer, providing expert security architecture and RMF guidance across SDLC for on-prem, cloud, and modernizing systems.

You will work closely with ISSMs, ISSOs, and developers to implement controls, remediate vulnerabilities, and guide architecture, while operating in a hybrid onsite model near Fort Meade and Chambersburg. A TS clearance and DoD-focused experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of related experience.
• DoD 8140 Work Role 652 - Security Architect Certification requirement (one of: Security X/CASP+CE, CCSP, Cloud+, CISSP, CSSLP, CISM, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSIP, CSSLP, GSEC).
• Must have and maintain a current DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Must reside within commutable distance of Fort Meade, MD or Chambersburg, PA for hybrid onsite (4 days onsite weekly).
• Expert-level knowledge of RMF and NIST SP 800-37.
• Expert-level knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 security and privacy controls.
• Hands-on engineering with Splunk, Elastic, ACAS/Nessus and EDR.
• Experience converting compliance requirements into practical engineering solutions.
• Knowledge of traditional and cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

• Serve as embedded security engineering expert for Mission Partners, ISSMs, ISSOs, system owners, architects, and development teams.
• Provide security engineering support throughout the SDLC, including requirements gathering, design reviews, sprint planning, modernization, implementation, and production.
• Translate RMF, NIST SP 800-53, and DoD policy into actionable engineering solutions.
• Conduct in-depth security architecture and design reviews for new and existing systems.
• Analyze network and cloud architectures, APIs, microservices, containers, and data flows to identify weaknesses.
• Collaborate with teams to implement security controls and reduce compliance friction.
• Engineer vulnerability mitigation strategies and support POA&M actions.
• Develop solutions to reduce attack surface while preserving mission capability.
• Translate security requirements into MFA, data encryption, secure zoning, and related controls.
• Apply DoD STIGs, SRGs, PPSM to system engineering activities.
• Use security telemetry and SIEM findings to recommend improvements.
• Provide mentorship to ISSMs, ISSOs, developers, and system owners.
• Present risks, findings, and recommendations to technical staff and leadership.
• Document customer interactions and technical recommendations as required.
