Job summary

Newberry Group seeks an experienced ISSE to support a DISA customer. You will provide cybersecurity engineering consulting to ISSMs, ISSOs, and development teams, guiding RMF, NIST, and DoD policy implementation across on-prem, cloud, and modernized systems.

You will translate requirements into practical implementations, mentor teams, and deliver risk-based recommendations that improve system security throughout the SDLC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of related experience.
• DoD 8140 Work Role 652 – Security Architect Certification (one of: Security X/CASP+CE, CCSP, Cloud+, CISSP, CSSLP, CISM, CISSP-ISSAP/ISSIP/CSSLP, GSEC).
• Must have and maintain a current DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Must reside within commutable distance of Fort Meade, MD or Chambersburg, PA for hybrid onsite schedule (4 days onsite weekly).
• Expert-level RMF and NIST SP 800-37 knowledge.
• Expert-level NIST SP 800-53 knowledge and privacy controls.
• Hands-on engineering/configuration with enterprise security tech (SIEM, AV/EDR, vulnerability scanners).

Responsibilities

• Serve as embedded security engineering expert for Stakeholders and development teams.
• Provide security engineering support across the SDLC including requirements, design reviews, and production.
• Translate RMF/NIST policies into actionable security controls and solutions.
• Perform security architecture and design reviews for new and existing systems.
• Analyze architectures, cloud-native tech, apps, APIs, and data flows to identify weaknesses.
• Collaborate to identify achievable controls reducing compliance friction.
• Develop vulnerability mitigation strategies and POA&M assistance.
• Create solutions reducing attack surface while preserving mission capability.
• Translate requirements into MFA, encryption, secure zoning and related controls.
• Apply DoD STIGs, SRGs, PPSM to engineering activities.
• Use SIEM/EDR findings to propose architectural improvements.
• Mentor ISSMs/ISSOs, developers, and system owners.
• Present risks and mitigations to technical staff and leadership.
• Document customer interactions and technical recommendations.
