Job summary

Tier4 Group is seeking an Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) to serve as a customer-facing cybersecurity engineering consultant across DoD-inspired environments. The role requires RMF/NIST expertise, DoD policy interpretation, and strong risk-focused design capabilities, with hybrid onsite work in Chambersburg, PA or Fort Meade, MD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of related experience.
• DoD 8140 Work Role 652 Security Architect Certification requirement.
• Current DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Must reside within commutable distance of Fort Meade, MD or Chambersburg, PA for hybrid onsite schedule.
• Expert-level RMF/NIST SP 800-37 knowledge.
• Expert-level NIST SP 800-53 controls knowledge.
• Hands-on engineering/configuration with enterprise security technologies.

Responsibilities

• Embed as security engineering expert for Mission Partners and system owners.
• Provide security engineering support through SDLC including design reviews and modernization.
• Translate RMF and DoD policy into actionable, threat-informed solutions.
• Conduct security architecture and design reviews for new/existing systems.
• Analyze architectures, cloud/native setups, apps, APIs, containers and data flows for weaknesses.
• Collaborate with architects/developers to implement achievable controls and reduce friction.
• Develop vulnerability mitigation strategies and support POA&M actions.
• Create solutions to reduce attack surface without compromising mission.
• Translate requirements into MFA, encryption, secure zoning and related controls.
• Apply DoD STIGs, SRGs, PPSM to system engineering.
• Use SIEM/vuln/EDR findings to drive improvements.
• Mentor ISSMs, ISSOs, developers, and owners.
• Present risks and mitigations to tech staff and leadership.
• Document customer interactions and recommendations.
