Job summary

Eaton is seeking an experienced Assistant Chief IP Counsel to lead our global IP strategy and portfolio development from its Innovation and Technology Legal team. This role offers strategic counsel to senior leadership on IP risk, technology transactions, and open-source governance to protect and monetize Eaton’s innovations.

Qualifications

JD from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar license.
Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, or related technical field.
Minimum 15 years in intellectual property law with innovation-focused experience.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute global IP strategy aligned with Eaton’s objectives.
Lead patent portfolio development across electrical, software, AI, cybersecurity and connected products.
Provide strategic counsel on IP risks, freedom-to-operate, and licensing.
Oversee IP transactions, diligence for acquisitions, and partnerships.
Manage outside counsel and drive process improvements in IP operations.
