Job summary

Eaton Corporation seeks an experienced IP leader to serve as Assistant Chief IP Counsel within its Innovation and Technology Legal team. You will shape global IP strategy, collaborate with technology and business leaders, and drive protection, licensing, and risk management across multiple tech domains.

This role demands deep IP expertise, executive presence, and the ability to translate complex technical issues into practical business solutions that support growth and enterprise value creation.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, or other technical discipline.
• Minimum of 15 years in intellectual property law, including significant experience supporting innovation-intensive businesses.
• Registered U.S. Patent Attorney or equivalent qualification in a major jurisdiction.
• Experience managing patent portfolios, technology transactions, licensing, and IP risk matters.
• Experience leading complex IP issues within a multinational organization, major law firm, or combination thereof.

Responsibilities

• Partner with senior business, engineering, and technology leaders to develop and execute a global IP strategy aligned with Eaton’s objectives.
• Drive identification, protection, development, maintenance, exploitation, and optimization of Eaton’s IP portfolio worldwide.
• Advise executive leadership on IP risks, opportunities, competitive positioning, and innovation trends.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Legal Officer and senior leadership on IP and technology matters.
• Develop and implement governance frameworks, procedures, and KPIs for IP management and innovation support.
• Lead strategic patent portfolio development across domains including electrical systems, software, AI, cybersecurity, and connected products.
• Guide invention harvesting, patentability assessments, portfolio prioritization, whitespace analyses, and open-source considerations.
• Drive portfolio optimization with a focus on high-value technologies and business priorities.
