Job summary

The New York Public Library seeks a Senior Manager of Internal Communications to lead our internal communications strategy and drive employee engagement across the organization in NYC. You will champion the Five‑Year Strategy and coordinate across Communications, HR, IT, and other departments.

You will manage Lair, The Roar, and all‑staff emails, oversee content governance, and guide editorial standards while partnering with stakeholders on major initiatives and sensitive matters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in internal/employee communications or corporate communications.
• Experience leading internal communications for complex, multi‑location organizations.
• Experience developing communication plans and advising leaders on major initiatives.
• Experience managing digital workplace platforms and content governance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the Library’s internal communications strategy in alignment with the Five‑Year Strategy and institutional priorities.
• Advise leaders on messaging, audience, tone, timing, sequencing, and channels for strategic priorities and sensitive matters.
• Build relationships across the Library to understand culture, audiences, and communication needs.
• Manage primary internal communications channels (Lair, The Roar, all‑staff emails) and the editorial calendar.
• Serve as the primary NYPL intranet contact, leading content planning, migration, governance, launch communications, and adoption with IT.
• Oversee Lair’s editorial direction and content management with department owners.
• Write, edit, and produce executive messages, newsletters, intranet content, announcements, talking points.
