Job summary

Travelers is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its national legal team in the United States. The role focuses on high exposure insurance defense litigation, handling complex matters from inception through trial and appeal.

You will mentor junior attorneys and collaborate with experts to deliver exceptional client service. Ideal candidates have a Juris Doctorate, 7+ years practicing law, and an active license in the relevant state(s).

Qualifications

• 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience as a practicing attorney.
• Strong aptitude for trying cases to a jury with a history of favorable outcomes.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy with appellate exposure is a plus.
• In-depth knowledge of bench and local jurisdictional practices.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle high exposure cases and complex litigation matters.
• Apply litigation skills to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and prepare persuasive briefs and motions.
• Attend court events, depositions, and other proceedings as needed.
• Provide case analysis and strategic recommendations to clients and partners.
• Collaborate with experts to develop trial strategies and testimony.
• Mentor junior attorneys and support staff to build capabilities.
• Lead training and updates for insured clients and partners.
