Job summary

Travelers Insurance Company seeks a Senior Counsel to manage high-exposure insurance defense matters from inception through trial and appeal. You will deliver proactive case handling, mentor junior attorneys, and collaborate with claim partners to achieve exceptional client service.

The role emphasizes strong trial experience, a JD, and an active license, with opportunities for leadership and occasional travel to meet business needs.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international law degree.
• 7 years experience as a practicing attorney.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required.
• Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings and can travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Handle a caseload of higher exposure and complex litigation independently.
• Use trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Perform advanced legal research and craft persuasive briefs and pleadings.
• Attend court events, depositions, and related appointments independently.
• Provide strategic case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
• Collaborate with experts and consultants to develop case strategies and testimony.
• Build and maintain client and partner relationships; mentor attorneys and staff.
• Provide training and legal updates to insured clients and claim partners.
• Lead special projects to support office goals and leverage technology for case management.
