Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company in the United States invites an experienced insurance defense attorney to join its national legal team. As Senior Counsel you will independently handle a caseload of higher exposure matters, mentor less experienced attorneys, and deliver value through strong client service and litigation management.

Required is a Juris Doctorate, active license to practice law, and 7+ years of insurance defense litigation.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Strong trial experience with jury outcomes or appellate success.
• Ability to communicate complex matters to diverse audiences.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy skills with demonstrated success.
• In-depth knowledge of bench, bar, and local practices.
• Collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers and partners.
• Leadership through mentoring and influencing skills.
• Strong negotiation skills and sound decision making.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle a caseload of higher exposure cases and complex litigation.
• Apply litigation skills to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and craft persuasive documents.
• Attend court events, depositions, and other proceedings independently.
• Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and partners.
• Collaborate with experts to develop case strategies and testimony.
• Develop and maintain client and partner relationships.
• Provide training and updates to clients and partners.
• Mentor other attorneys and support staff; lead special projects.
