Job summary

Travelers is seeking an Associate Senior Counsel in the United States to handle a caseload of moderate to high exposure cases, including Major Case matters depending on the line of business. You will apply litigation skills to trial, settlement, and strategy, while mentoring junior attorneys.

You will perform advanced legal research, draft pleadings and briefs, and collaborate with experts to deliver optimal results for insured clients and the Claims team. Travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Aptitude for trying cases to a jury with a track record of courtroom outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge and ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
• Proficient advocacy skills with a history of summary judgment and appellate success.
• Knowledge of bench/bar practices and local jurisdictional rules.
• Ability to mentor colleagues and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Handle a caseload of predominantly moderate and higher exposure cases, including Major Case matters.
• Leverage trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct proficient to advanced legal research and strong writing/presentation of arguments.
• Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other documents.
• Attend court events, depositions, and appointments independently.
• Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claims partners.
• Collaborate with experts to develop theories and testimony; mentor junior staff.
• Travel as required to meet business needs.
