Job summary

Audubon is seeking an Instrument Engineering Associate Principal to join our Houston, TX office. The role focuses on advanced instrument engineering for equipment design, specifications, and project execution across multi-discipline teams.

The ideal candidate brings ABET-accredited engineering background, 20+ years of experience, and proficiency with SPI and sizing software. Responsibilities include leading specifications, site assessments, vendor reviews, and risk-aware project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• ABET-accredited institution preferred.
• Electrical engineering degree preferred.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Field experience required.
• Industry experience required.
• 20+ years of experience preferred.
• SPI and sizing software experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ISA, NEC, API design codes preferred.
• Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Independently prepare advanced level specifications detailing client performance requirements, specific component needs, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.
• Prepare engineering sketches, perform engineering calculations and develop analysis models for complex project assignments.
• Review and/or approve vendor drawings for compliance with project specifications.
• Interact and communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors and other consultants.
• Set realistic expectations and ensure assigned projects are completed according to schedule and within budget.
• Adhere to company quality standards and follow engineering checking and approval procedures.
• Comply with HSSE standards and regulations.
• Visit job-sites to evaluate site, project requirements, and conditions.
• Visit vendor facilities to inspect equipment for compliance with requirements/specifications.
• Prepare inquiry and purchase requisitions and bid tabulations.
• Perform checking of engineering drawings and calculations.
• Plan and manage workload, budgets and project resources.
