Job summary

Audubon Companies in Houston, TX is seeking an Instrument Engineering Supervisor to lead a team of engineers in instrument engineering tasks for designing equipment, components and systems. The role involves directing workload, budgets, schedules and ensuring quality and safety compliance.

The supervisor will mentor staff, manage client relationships and develop repeat business opportunities while ensuring adherence to HSSE standards and client requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from ABET Accredited Institution preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • PE License preferred.
  • Field experience required.
  • Industry experience required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience preferred.
  • Large multi-discipline project lead experience preferred.
  • Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), Control Valve Sizing, Meter Sizing and Relief Valve Sizing software experience preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience within an engineering environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the design of instrumented control and safety systems preferred.
  • Working knowledge of instrument and electrical design codes (ISA, NEC, API, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work related problems.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions and request clarification as necessary.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and direct a project to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Interact and communicate effectively with direct reports, clients, subcontractors, vendors and other consultants.
  • Set realistic expectations and ensure assigned projects are completed according to schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure that projects assigned to direct reports are completed according to schedule and within budget.
  • Adhere to and ensure direct reports follow company quality standards and engineering checking procedures.
  • Perform checking or assign checkers of engineering drawings and calculations produced by direct reports.
  • Ensure overall quality and technical accuracy of deliverables produced by direct reports.
  • Oversee adherence to safe design practices and identify cost saving opportunities.
  • Plan and manage group workload, budgets and project resources; request assistance as needed.
  • Assist in developing internal design guidelines, specifications, and design control procedures.
  • Assess feasibility of projects by evaluating materials, costs and time; apply engineering knowledge.
  • Utilize complex and repetitive calculations.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of reports, specifications, plans, schedules for projects.
  • Analyze strategies and resolve design issues.
  • Manage client relationships and develop repeat business opportunities.
  • Compile man-hour estimates and Total Installed Cost estimates; forecast manpower and schedules.
  • Assess risks, costs, regulatory and environmental factors for projects.
  • Contribute to risk management and corrective actions.
  • Hire staff, evaluate performance, and address grievances; may initiate disciplinary actions.
  • Approve time entries and expenses per policies.
  • Provide guidance on techniques and best practices to peers.
  • Set direction, priorities and allocate resources; define roles and deadlines; ensure quality.
  • Comply with HSSE standards and regulations.
  • Participate in hazard identification and reporting.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and training for staff.
  • Report occupational incidents and support investigations and corrective actions.
  • Prepare advanced specifications and design packages as needed.
  • Develop and review engineering sketches and calculations.
  • Review vendor drawings for compliance.
  • May conduct site investigations and vendor facility visits.
  • Collaborate with drafting/design groups.
