Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools is seeking a Secondary Advanced Academic Services (AAS) - Instructional Specialist to support the implementation of the secondary gifted services and the Young Scholars model. This licensed 12-month position reports to the Director of Advanced Academic Services.

The specialist will provide regular school-based instructional support and professional learning to ensure alignment of written and taught curriculum at the secondary level, and will assist with screening,

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.
Master’s Degree is preferred.
Virginia Department of Education license with secondary level endorsement or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

Administer or assist with the administration of AAS programs for screening, referral, identification, and placement of students.
Provide regular, school-based instructional support and professional learning to align written and taught curriculum at the secondary level.
Collaborate with staff, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the district plan.
Communicate developments and teaching practices to stakeholders to promote equity within gifted and advanced academics.
Assist teachers with implementing established curricula and individual student plans.
