Job summary

Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, seeks a professional coder to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and assess DRG impact based on CC/MCC references. The role requires AHIMA/AAPC credentials and at least 3+ years in acute care inpatient coding.

Work is remote from anywhere in the U.S. with a Monday–Friday schedule; compensation includes comprehensive benefits and ongoing career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC maintained annually.
• 3+ years of Acute Care Inpatient medical coding experience.
• Experience with DRG coding and complex procedures.
• 3+ years of ICD-10-PCS procedure coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services and their DRG impact with CC/MCC reference.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding.
• Adhere to AHIMA and AAPC coding ethics and guidelines.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity as required.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay up-to-date on coding knowledge via QM Manager and leadership guidance.
• Participate in departmental meetings and educational events.
• Review and maintain records of coded, held, and missing charts.
