Job summary

Optum is seeking a professional coder for inpatient DRG coding to support acute care facilities. This full-time role offers 40 hours/week, remote work within the U.S., and consultative collaboration with QM and Coding Ops leaders.

You will apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, DRG guidelines, and encoder tools to ensure accurate coding, maintain AHIMA/AAPC credentials, and contribute to productivity and quality in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) to be maintained annually.
• 3+ years of inpatient DRG coding in an acute care facility setting.
• 3+ years of ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding using an encoder.
• Proficient in Windows, Excel, and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate assignment of ICD-10 CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRG, and abstraction for facility services while adhering to guidelines.
• Expert knowledge in Inpatient DRG Coding.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart reviews as needed.
• Query physicians when appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge from QM Manager and Directors.
