Job summary

SYSTEM West Virginia University Health System in the United States seeks a skilled health information coder to join our hospital coding team. You will assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for inpatient and IRAD cases, verify documentation, and ensure accurate MS-DRG assignments.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, HIM or coding certification (AHIMA/AAPC), and at least three years of inpatient coding experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Current HIM or Coding Certification through AHIMA or AAPC.
• Three years of hospital inpatient coding experience.
• Graduate of HIT or Medical Coding Certification program (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Codes inpatient and/or IRAD 90% of current FTE status.
• Interprets medical record documentation to assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT codes and modifiers.
• Ensures accurate MS-DRG assignment based on coding and documentation.
• Assigns codes for various patient classes (I/P, IRAD).
• Maintains timely coding, charging and abstraction for assigned areas.
• Keeps coding knowledge current via reviews, trainings and reference materials.
• Ensures accuracy and timeliness of data for a clean bill.
• Contacts physicians to obtain information needed for accurate coding.
