Job summary

West Virginia University Health System is seeking a certified hospital coder to join our HIM Coding Analysis team. The role focuses on accurately coding outpatient encounters by assigning ICD-10, CPT codes and modifiers based on medical record documentation.

You will review documentation from hospital accounts, ensure timely charging and abstraction, and maintain knowledge through in-services and seminars. This non-management position requires 2 years of hospital coding experience and AHIMA/AAPC

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current HIM or Coding Certification through AHIMA or AAPC.
• Two years of hospital coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical record documentation to identify diagnoses/procedures and assigns ICD-10, CPT, or modifiers.
• Assigns hospital codes to ED, OBS, SDC, and other classes.
• Ensures timely coding, charging and abstraction of accounts for assigned areas.
• Maintains coding knowledge through in-services, seminars, and updates to coding manuals.
• Ensures data accuracy for a clean bill.
• Contacts physicians or staff to obtain information necessary for accurate coding.
