Job summary

Qualifications

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or RHIT/RHIA.
• AHIMA or AAPC membership in good standing.
• Minimum one year inpatient coding experience; per diem candidates require three years.
• Education: High School Diploma/GED; Associate Degree preferred.
• Coding proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS, POA indicators, and DRG coding.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; encoder/grouper experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Extracts, reviews, and analyzes clinical information to translate data into codes for billing and compliance.
• Reviews medical records and assigns ICD-10 diagnoses and procedures for MS-DRG/APR-DRG.
• Verifies discharge disposition and POA indicators for each code.
• Abstracts required data per facility specifications.
• Uses clinical knowledge to determine case complexity and coding accuracy.
• Collaborates with CDI team to clarify documentation for accurate coding and reimbursement.
• Maintains required quality and productivity standards.
