Job summary

Markel is seeking an Executive Underwriter for Inland Marine in the Northeast Region. The role underwrites new business, renewals, and drives strategic projects to support profitability and growth.

You will mentor less experienced underwriters and collaborate with regional leadership to align with underwriting guidelines and market strategy. The position requires extensive underwriting experience, strong communication, and travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of complex retail & wholesale Inland Marine underwriting experience.
• Four year college degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Microsoft Office skills to include MS Word and MS Excel.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite Inland Marine coverages for large, complex accounts.
• Analyze loss data and act with internal actuaries.
• Present at meetings with senior executives and brokers.
• Provide policy review and rating guidance.
• Cultivate broker relationships across the Northeast Region.
