Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team in the Institutional product group to build and operate real-time trading systems powering Coinbase's institutional exchange, including matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation.

You will write performance-critical backend code in Java, C++, or Go, own reliability end-to-end, and deliver features expanding our trading capabilities for large financial institutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in production trading or financial infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or Go with latency-sensitive workloads.
• Experience designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems.
• Collaborates with Product and cross-functional teams on timelines and scope.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; AI responsibly used.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency, event-sourced trading systems across matching, order entry, risk, and market data.
• Own reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput data 24/7.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, and senior engineering leadership to translate strategy into milestones.
• Drive technical design decisions and build consensus with peers and tech leads.
• Write high-quality, well-tested backend code in a performance-critical environment.
